Hello JosephPare1,
I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with Edge opening automatically at startup. Did you made any changes recently? When was the last time it was working properly?
Kindly try the suggested methods below.
1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run then type:
shell:startup
Press Enter. If there's Edge in the folder, kindly remove it.
2. Press Start then search Settings
Click Accounts then on the left side Click Sign in Options.
Look for "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart," Please turn it off.
3. Press Start then search Settings > Apps > Startup > Please try to turn everything off. Check if Edge will no longer start automatically.
4. Kindly check if you're using Windows Spotlight in your lock screen. Once you click Edge, it will automatically search for any word that you click after unlocking the device. It's recommended to change your lock screen settings.
Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.
Sincerely
John DeV

Hi there,
I am a curious kid, (my name explains who I am), and I would like to say, there is one more way I know.
1. Open Task Manager via start or shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+Esc"
2. Click on more details on the bottom (only if seen, if not you're good)
3. Naviguate to the Startup tab on the top
4. Search for Microsoft Edge, right click it and hit Disable.

John DeV, thank you.
My issue is after I restart my PC and everything is started. I start working and then Edge will start a new session - ie like a pop up. It will start a search "how to get help with Window 10". I'll end it and it will restart again. There is no set time to when it starts, some times immediately and other times it might an hour or two. If i let it go, it will continue within Edge with different tabs the same search.
I have attempted just about everything.

Hi SLJAMEL,
I know this was posted a while ago but I wanted to check in and see if you're still experiencing this behavior. If so, can you provide a screenshot of the pop up window of Microsoft Edge, your Edge version (edge://help to check this) and also confirm what happens when you perform a search in the Edge browser intentionally? This is definitely an odd behavior and I'd love to help you get to the bottom of what's going on.
Thanks!

Hey there,
I would suggest starting a new thread for this as it looks like you're running into a different issue than the ones covered in this thread. You may want to check edge://settings/system and see if you have Startup Boost enabled and if "Continue running background apps when Microsoft Edge is closed" is enabled. If neither of those resolve this, a new thread will help us get to the bottom of this =)

Thanks for everyone's input. I actually found my issue which was the continuous popping of to Microsoft Edge. It was because for some reason: "https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=528882" would hit my command line. Just about everywhere I found the sites would say "it's because the F1 - Help key was stuck. It's hard for me to believe there are so many folks with an issue of a sticking F1 key.
whatever it was resolved from the site: "https://www.askvg.com/fix-how-to-get-help-in-windows-10-keeps-opening-is-it-virus/"
Good Luck finding the correct resolution to your issue.

I have followed the suggestions above. Edge is not on the Startup Tab. I have turned off that thing said to turn off, automatic starting or something. Everything!
And Edge keep;s inserting itself. I am really getting flustered and am considering turning my machines into Linux. Windows is getting as controlling as some governments. Telling us what we need, what is good for us and what we are going to do with it. It's not like we are getting Windows free. The license fee is in the cost of the machine.,
Is there really anyway to stop Edge. I think the developers are just trying to wear us down and that makes me hate it worse.
SIGNATURE: I'm eternally grateful, well not eternally but for a long time I appreciate your help! :)

Is this what you turned off?
Settings > Accounts > Sign-In Options > Privacy (on the right) >
turn off "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an
update or restart"
